Daily Report – 11/6/25
Knicks
The Knicks are riding a 5-0 home record, their best home start since 2012, and every night, a new star emerges at the Garden. Last night, Josh Hart continued his stellar stretch with four three-point field goals, and Mitchell Robinson dominated the offensive glass as the Knicks achieved a 137-114 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Minnesota is a top NBA team. Their roster is filled with talent, from Anthony Edwards to Julius Randle, who scored 32 points in the building he called home for five seasons. But that was about all that went well for Minnesota, as the Knicks achieved another stellar home win.
The most impressive part of the Knicks’ excellent start to their season is the balanced scoring among players. The stars are performing, and Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby combined for 48 points yesterday. But if I told you the Knicks scored 137 points yesterday, you would be more likely to assume Brunson, Anunoby, or Karl-Anthony Towns had big performances than, say, Josh Hart. As I wrote yesterday, as anemic as Hart has looked on the court at times this season, he’s managed to grind his way through pain and go on one of his best scoring streaks as a Knick.
Hart doesn’t usually thrive from three-point range. He’s a great defender and an even better rebounder. He isn’t a shooter. But with the Knicks’ new pace-oriented style of play, they can generate increased ball movement on the court, which is why Hart got so many open looks from three-point range. The Knicks’ new system has allowed players to thrive along the perimeter, and Hart’s newfound success is a manifestation of everything Mike Brown stands for.
“55 field goals made, 32 assists, so the ball is moving, the ball is humming,” said head coach Brown. “That was part of the success we had in the second half. Our quick decisions, the floor was spaced the right way, we just kept trying to share the ball and find an open teammate.”
It’s fun to watch this Knicks team play, not just because they’re winning games, but because it’s clear every player knows their role like the back of their hand. They don’t just understand the importance of pace, but they also know how to generate it without sacrificing defense. The more players who get the ball, the better. It’s great to have a system that gives every player a chance to shine each night.
“We’re well coached,” said Anunoby, who led the Knicks last night with 25 points, shooting 10-for-17 from the field. “They do all this stuff in practice. We’re just trying to execute it and follow through with what the game plan is.”
Anunoby is funny. He never takes credit for any of his achievements. He’s one of the best defensive players in the NBA, and he provides superstar-caliber offense to the Knicks. His production and contributions are highly underrated, even though he’s by far the Knicks’ best defender and their second or third-best scorer. If Brunson weren’t such an excellent scorer, Anunoby would probably be the best player on this team.
“OG is as talented and strong and talented as they come,” Mike Brown said. Note that he said “talented” twice.
“We’re all about getting stops, taking care of the ball, and executing,” Anunoby said. “Playing the right way is important, and tonight, we did all of that.”
Let’s not forget Mitchell Robinson, who had a tremendous impact on last night’s game with nine offensive rebounds. His size and strength are crucial to the Knicks’ offense. Robinson was the difference maker between a win and a blowout victory last night because of how he extended each Knicks possession for which he was on the court. Nine offensive rebounds in 16 minutes meant 19 more field goal attempts for the Knicks than for Minnesota.
There was a 60-second stretch in the third quarter when Robinson registered three offensive rebounds, a dunk, and a block. “I was just out there being me,” Robinson said. “It’s all about being in the right position.”
The Knicks look to continue their winning ways this weekend when they host the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday night. Brooklyn just got its first win of the season yesterday, and the Nets’ record currently sits at 1-7.
“I think we’re growing, we’re learning. Obviously, playing at home is a big factor,” Jalen Brunson said. “When we get back on the road, we have to focus up even harder than we do at home. Find a way to win. The energy at home is great. Playing in front of these fans is awesome. We’ve got to continue to improve.”
