BREAKING: Cody Bellinger Wins All-Star Game MVP
In the 96th annual Midsummer Classic, Cody Bellinger took home some hardware. The Yankees’ outfielder became the fourth player in franchise history to win the Ted Williams All-Star Game MVP Award, and the first since Giancarlo Stanton in 2022.
Bellinger celebrated his award at home plate with his two daughters. After Mike Schmidt handed him the glass bat, Kevin Burkhardt asked him what his favorite memory of tonight was.
“Sharing it with my family, honestly,” Bellinger said. “My last time here, it was just me, so to share it with other people is a blessing.”
The American League bested the National League 4-0 tonight in Philadelphia, and Bellinger drove the game-winning run home in the first inning. With two outs and the bases loaded behind Christopher Sánchez, boasting the fifth-longest scoreless streak in MLB history (and the longest by a lefty), Bellinger slid a two-strike sinker through the infield dirt.
“Baseball is one of the most unexplainable games there is,” Bellinger said. “Sometimes, it doesn’t make sense. The guys in front of me did a great job. They got on base with two outs. I’m up with the bases loaded, and I just tried to keep it simple.”
Bellinger finished the All-Star Game 1-for-3 with two RBI. Ben Rice, who singled after Bellinger in the first inning, finished 1-for-2 with one RBI. Meanwhile, 11 AL pitchers held the NL to three hits and two walks, and they tallied 15 strikeouts.
