Daily Report – 2/5/25
Greetings,
Here is today’s report:
Rangers
Tonight at 7 PM (6 PM CST), the Rangers will host the Boston Bruins (TNT, TruTV, MAX). The Rangers currently rank seventh in the wild card race with 54 points in 52 games. Boston ranks third in the wild card standings with 60 points through 55 games. The Rangers need a regulation win over Boston tonight if they want to gain significant traction in the standings. The Rangers will also play Pittsburgh and Columbus before the Four Nations Face-Off.
Knicks
Last night in Toronto, the Knicks beat the Raptors 121-115. While the Knicks outscored Toronto 38-17 in the second quarter and led by 23 points in the third, ending the night with a win wasn’t easy.
The Knicks led Toronto 98-86 as the fourth quarter began. Nine minutes later, the Raptors were within one point of tying the score. And then came Jalen Brunson.
Brunson nailed a key three-pointer with just 26 seconds remaining in regulation to secure the win for his team. But it didn’t come easily. The Knicks grinded through a difficult three minutes in the fourth quarter as they fought off the pesky Raptors, their lead teetering. It was a mismatch between a shorthanded top-ranked Knicks team and a young squad of Raptors. In the end, Toronto was no match for Jalen Brunson, and he scored 28 points in this game.
For the Knicks to win last night, it was fundamental for their starters to play well. Brunson was the catalyst for a Knicks offense that resumed its course from the night before. While Brunson was the most impactful player on the floor during the final seconds of regulation, no dinosaur was bigger than Karl-Anthony Towns, who finished the night with 27 points and 20 rebounds.
There’s a reason why Brunson and Towns are starting in the NBA All-Star Game. They are one of the – if not the – best one-two punches in the NBA, and every team struggles to guard them. Their latest achievement? Sweeping the season series over Toronto.
The Knicks will play their next game on Saturday night against Boston.
Schedule
