Yankees Trade Deadline Special – 7/31/25

The trade deadline has concluded, and the Yankees were successful. While they didn’t acquire a starting pitcher or a left-handed reliever, this deadline was a slam dunk. Brian Cashman gained a lot of tools, including three high-leverage bullpen arms, without giving up much.

Here is a look at the moves the Yankees made:

3B Ryan McMahon (L) from COL (.227 AVG, .734 OPS)

Traded: Griffin Herring, Josh Grosz

An early trade made to fill the Yankees’ hole at third base, McMahon has been terrific defensively and hot offensively. Despite his high strikeout numbers, he prevents plenty of runs. He is a great acquisition.

NYY Rating: A-

UTL Amed Rosario (R) from WSH (.275 AVG, .744 OPS)

Traded: Clayton Beeter, Browm Martinez

Another early trade for the Yankees, and a platoon bat for McMahon against lefties. He hasn’t had many opportunities for the Yankees yet, but he is a good depth piece.

NYY Rating: B

OF Austin Slater (R) from CWS (.228 AVG, .699 OPS)

Traded: Gage Ziehl

A depth piece in the outfield who hits best against lefties. He looked good today against Tampa Bay.

NYY Rating: B

RHP David Bednar (2-5, 2.37 ERA, 17/17 SVO) from PIT

Traded: Rafael Flores, Edgleen Perez, Brian Sanchez

Bednar is a sensational closer from the Pirates who has high velocity and terrific numbers. He is a wonderful addition to this Yankees bullpen.

NYY Rating: A

RHP Jake Bird (4-1, 4.73 ERA) from COL

Traded: Ben Shields, Roc Riggio

Bird is a tough righty with a sensational curveball. He is a gritty arm who will serve this bullpen well.

NYY Rating: A-

UTL Jose Caballero (R) from TB (.226 AVG, .638 OPS)

Traded: Everson Pereira, unnamed player

Caballero was traded from Tampa Bay in the middle of the Yankees’ game against the Rays. He leads the American League in stolen bases with 34, and he will serve as the secondary shortstop to Anthony Volpe.

NYY Rating: B+

RHP Camilo Doval (4-2, 3.09 ERA, 15/19 SVO)

Traded: Jesus Rodriguez, Parks Harber, Trystan Vrieling, Carlos De La Rosa

A buzzer-beater deal for the Yankees, Doval is a hard-throwing right-handed closer. He is another high-leverage arm for the Yankees, and an excellent pickup overall.

NYY Rating: A

The Yankees also traded veteran pitcher Carlos Carrasco to Atlanta for cash considerations and infielder Oswald Peraza to Anaheim for Wilberson De Pena and international bonus pool money.
