Daily Report – 1/28/25

Greetings,

Here is today’s report:

Rangers

Tonight at 7 PM (6 PM CST), the New York Rangers will host the Carolina Hurricanes at Madison Square Garden (MSG). This is an important Metropolitan Division matchup for the Rangers.

Knicks

The dunk-a-thon was on at the Garden last night as the Knicks dominated the Memphis Grizzlies 143-106. Memphis is the third-best team in the West, but for the first time in 45 years, the Knicks scored 140 points in back-to-back 48-minute periods.

The Knicks totaled significantly more possessions than Memphis, and it seemed like every player was hitting their shots. The Knicks recorded 20 steals and 29 defensive rebounds, while Memphis turned the ball over 26 times. The Knicks also tallied 32 assists, showcasing numerous perfectly executed passes.

Mikal Bridges led the Knicks with 28 points, and the bench contributed 52 points to the overall effort. Notably, Precious Achiuwa and Deuce McBride each scored 14 points in just over 20 minutes. Landry Shamet added six points in 11:41, and Cameron Payne chipped in with 11 points in 16:26.

The highlight of the game was the creativity displayed on the court. Achiuwa and McBride created so much open space for themselves that they executed several one-handed dunks. The energy in the Garden was electric throughout the entire game, and the Knicks truly entertained the crowd.

Before last night, I was unaware that Achiuwa or McBride could pull off one-handed slam dunks. I hope the Knicks’ offensive momentum continues for as long as possible.

While the Knicks scored 143 points, they also limited the league's highest-scoring team to 106 points. Memphis averages a league-leading 123.3 points per game, while the Knicks rank fourth (117.8). Memphis also holds the seventh spot in defensive rating at 110.5. The Knicks demonstrated some of their best defense of the season last night, and improving defensively is much more important for this team than their offense.

The Knicks will visit Memphis on February 28 to complete the season series, and they will play their next game tomorrow night when they host the Denver Nuggets.
