A True Ace
A legacy forever etched in time.
Carsten “CC” Charles Sabathia Jr. will continue to wear the pinstripes with pride as his legacy lives on in the hallowed halls of Cooperstown. On Saturday, Sabathia was indoctrinated into the Baseball Hall of Fame with fanfare and cheers. WFAN’s John Sterling once referred to Sabathia as “an ace in every single possible way.” I’ve met Sabathia, and he truly is an ace both on and off the field.

For 19 years, the southpaw was a dominant force on the mound. A 2009 Yankees World Champion, Sabathia’s grit propelled the team’s success. “During my career with the Yankees, I had the honor of playing with so many talented players,” said Derek Jeter. “No player exemplified a Hall-of-Fame player and person more than CC Sabathia.” Teammates and coaches alike viewed Sabathia as an exceptional teammate, owing to his impeccable performances in the Yankees’ biggest moments, into and through October playoff runs.
Sabathia possessed a grit that is rarely seen in today’s game. To me, this astronomical dedication paved his inevitable path to the Hall of Fame. To wit, this first-ballot Hall-of-Famer was inducted with 86.8% of the vote.
In addition to his pitching accomplishments, including (but certainly not limited to) 3,093 strikeouts over 3,577.1 innings pitched, Sabathia hit three career home runs. He was a true workhorse in every facet.
The big lefty currently resides in Bergen County, New Jersey with his wife Amber. Amber has always been his rock, managing their home while he transitioned from Cleveland to Milwaukee to New York. She also runs the PitCCh In Foundation in Alpine, NJ, which supports children in achieving success both on the baseball field and in school.
Sabathia is also an excellent golfer. I have heard his drives, and they produce a unique, powerful sound. His commitment to golf is nearly as strong as his dedication to pitching; now, his pitch is replaced by the club in his golf bag.
What makes Sabathia truly special, however, is his personality. He takes the time to get to know his fans, never brushing anyone off and always treating people with respect and dignity. He has given so much to my family in exchange for our support. It’s qualities like these that define a true Hall of Famer.
Sabathia’s legacy will forever be etched in MLB history, but no legacy is greater than the one he has built off the mound.
Congratulations, CC. Cooperstown is where you’re meant to be.
